Prescot Travel- Excursions

During this trip a few highlights in Central and Northern Peloponnesus will be passed and the town of Delphi will be visited. The most special about this trip is that there is more than enough time to enjoy the beautiful nature in these areas. For a part this trip will take place by foot. The hotels booked for this trip are all situated on very nice locations with often a breathtaking view.

The Trip

The group starts its journey from Athens international airport and travels directly on this first day to the city of Nafplion in the Peloponnesus. On the way a short stop will be made at the Canal of Corinth. The next day the group will visit the ancient Mycenae with its famous Lion Gate and the grave of Agamemnon. Also the not well know site of Nemea will pass the revue; here you can visit the temple of Zeus and the well kept stadium.
Through the mountains where different little villages are spread out, the group travels via the idyllically located lake of Stymfalia to the traditional village Dimitsana, situated on the edge of the Lousios Gorge.

A day walk through this magnificent gorge is breathtaking. In the gorge many monasteries can be found. The Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos will be visited. After a stop in ancient Gortys the bus will take the group back to Dimitsana.
The next day the journey will continue passing the archaeological site of Vasses where the beautiful temple of Apollo Epidurius can be admired. After lunch another stop will be made at the hot springs of Kaiafa. If some guests want to they may take a nice hot bath! The day ends in Olympia.
The beautiful site of Olympia is a very popular site and also its museum which has been renovated in 2004. Along the river Alfeos the group will walk through a orange tree garden.
Via the big toll bridge Rio-Antirio and along the capricious coastal road, passing Nafpaktos with its castle and the cosy fishing village Galaxidi, the group ends its day in Delphi. In Delphi a walk will be made over de Scala of Delphi, a classical route to the Oracle. After this walk there is a tour over the archaeological site and the museum of Delphi.
On the way back to Athens there is a stop at the wonderful monastery Osios Loukas located in a magnificent area. In the afternoon there is time to visit the biggest highlights of Athens before travelling back home the next day.
