Exploring Greece!

The best airport to explore Central Greece will be Thessaloniki. After receiving the rental car the journey can start with a visit to the archaeological site Vergina where the impressive grave of Philippus II, the father of Alexander the Great can be found. Also the site of Pella is much of interest. In Naoussa is a visit to the winery is a possibility. From Edessa, where a night will be spent in a traditional hotel in the old city centre, a day excursion can be made to the beauty resort Loutra Loutrakiou. Here, in the gorge a beautiful walking route has been lined out and at the end a nice warm bath in the healing waters of this resort is a must.  Worth a visit are also the high waterfalls of Edessa.

On the way to Kastoria passing by the bear reserve near Amindeo an extra excursion to the Prespes Lakes is possible, here many different birds like the Pelicans can be found.

Starting the day from the romantic city Kastoria the journey continues to Mikro Papingo high up in the mountains, at the foot of the Timfi Mountain (2.497 m). An excursion by foot can be made, following a lively path to the Dragon Lake or an interesting walk through the deep Vikos gorge with its rich flora and fauna.   

Then on to the next hotel in Kastraki, a quite village located at the foot of the breathtaking Meteora Rocks. The road goes via Ioannina where a visit to the little island Pamvotis,which is situated right in the middle of the lake, can be made as well as a stop in Metsovo, a picturesque mountain village in the popular ski area of Greece. The next day the old monasteries, built on the tips of the different rocks, can be visit by foot or by car. Enjoy the magical view on the Pindos mountain chain.  Through the fertile plain of Thessalia the road will take you to the coast. At the bottom of the “The Mountain of the Gods” the Olympus, the highest mountain of Greece with its 2.917 m, the last night of this roundtrip will be spend in a pretty car free village.  From this last location the excavation of Dion can be visited or a walk through the Enipeus gorge towards the giant tops of the Olympus Mountain; a fantastic experience!
