Kefalonia By Bike

Believe it or not but Greece is a perfect country for cycling. Prescot Travel works with a professional bike rental company on the island of Kefalonia, the owner was the bike champion of Greece! To make it easier on our cyclist, the luggages will be transported from hotel to hotel. A combination of this cycling tour with a stay on the nearby island Ithaki is also possible.

Kefalonia is reachable by airplane or by bus/ferry from Athens. After adjusting the bike to the wishes of our client, he/she is ready to go to cycle the mountains of Kefalonia!

They cycle a day over the peninsula of Paliki which they can reach by a ferryboat from Argostoli. A roundtrip passing the worn down marl rocks, the green valleys and a fantastic west coast. The next day the longest distance will be cycled with little height differences to the city of Fiscardo. Following the west coast they will pass the village Pelagia and they will have a splendid view on the white “Myrtos Beach”.

Further they will pass by the idyllically, on a small peninsula, Assos and her fort. Before entering Fiscardo they will go through a real wood of cypresses. Fiscardo is a colourful port; it is the only village on Kefalonia who still has houses from before the earthquake of 1953.

Leaving behind Fiscardo, it will be the most difficult part of the tour. Through the mountains they cycle via the eastern coast to Sami. During this ride they will have on different spots magnificent view on the nearby island Ithaki.  The next day there is the opportunity to explore the surroundings of Sami. Of interest are the caves of Drogarati and the lake Melissani. There is also the possibility to make a daytrip to the island of Ithaki with or without the bike. For the ones who really like a challenge, they can climb the highest mountain of Kefalonia, the Enos.

The journey from Sami to Poros is not hard, with beautiful views on the mountain Enos and going down through a green valley and a gorge to end in Poros.

On the last day they will keep cycling next to the coastline. Far away is the beautiful island Zakynthos. One of the many beaches is a perfect resting place before reaching the final destination Argostoli through a eucalyptus forest. Here the satisfied cyclist can look back on a wonderful trip.
